DIAGEO AND PERNOD RICARD 2022
The comparisons are based on the annual reports 2022 (H2/2021-H1/2022).
Diageos full report is 216 pages long and PR is 312 pages. Shorter versions are available and the web,
Both companies show very strong result for almost all products and markets.
Not much is written about malt whisky. Diageo has 29 malt distilleries and PR has 12 in Scotland but all what is written about maklt whisky I could cut and place on one singe page. The reason is probably that Diageo sold
21 Million 9-liter cases of Johnnie Walker !!!
For most of us this is just a figure but it is:
75.6 mLPA (Million liter pure alcohol)
This is:
almost twice the export of malt whisky from all 130 distilleries in Scotland (38.6 mLPA 2021)
Jameson sold 43.6 mLPA
I have tried to male a comparison between the two companies, They have a lot in common but also things that differ - like product range. Diageo has beer and tequila and PR wine, champagne, cognac, brandy, The geographical markets are also a bit different.
Interesting is the strong increase in
Diageo Tequila + 55% (2021 +67%)
The increase by volume is lower, which can be expained by the increase in the sales of premium products. This a strategy and the focus on these products and must-win markets.
IMFL-whisky (Indian-Made Foreign Liquor) is a big part of the volume of whisky for both companies.
What is written in an annual report does not always reflect the situation. In DCL report ”Chairman´s Statement” is this photo of Glenlochy Distillery – The distillery was closed on the beginning of 1983 ...
